Blog My Dubai: Oneal Daniels

Celebrity hairstylist Oneal Daniels sits down with Noted Noire to share his ultimate guide to Dubai.

"Khalas is my favourite Arabic slang. It means 'enough', 'finished', 'done' or 'stop'!" - Oneal Daniels

Noted Noire: Where is home for you?
Oneal Daniels: Niger-Delta, Nigeria.

NN: What brought you to Dubai?
OD: I didn’t move straight from Nigeria to Dubai. I was studying in China for about five years and after my graduation, a friend of mine told me Dubai would be good for my business, etc. so I decided to make the move.
The Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest structure
NN: If someone had only one day to explore Dubai, what would you recommend they do?

OD: There’s a lot to do in a day in Dubai and it’s a beautiful place so here’s my top five recommendations; ride a jet ski, go on a desert safari, visit the Miracle Garden, take a helicopter tour and visit the Dubai Aquarium.

NN: How does Dubai inspire your creativity or work ethic?

OD:  Dubai has really inspired my work ethic and creativity in many ways. There’s something about Dubai, it’s a city with visitors from all over the world, every single day! I get to meet different clients; amazing people, VIPs, Celebrities, etc.  Here in Dubai, everything is well put together, including the people. Things are very organised here, so it really inspires you to do better in terms of your branding, professionalism and customer service.

"I'm kind of an adventurous person, l like to explore places but after a busy day, I like to chill and relax with a glass of wine and good chill music " - Oneal Daniels

NN: Where’s your go-to spot when you’re craving Nigerian food?
OD: I will always crave Nigerian food ! That’s my favorite cuisine. My go-to spot is KIZA.
NN: Best date night spot?

OD: Urla Dubai.

Kiza - Oneal's go-to spot for Nigerian Food in Dubai
NN: How do you unwind after a busy day in the city? Do you have a favourite relaxation spot?
OD: I really don’t have like a particular favourite, I’m kind of an adventurous person. l like to explore different places but after a busy day, I like to chill and relax with a glass of wine and good chill music, so I recommend S bar at SLS Dubai.
Jetskiing - one of Oneal's favourite things to do in Dubai
NN: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone moving to Dubai for the first time?

OD: Just keep your priorities straight! Don’t get too distracted by the fast life and flashy things. You can have fun but don’t do it too much. Stay focused.

NN: What’s a local slang or phrase you use often, and what does it mean?

OD: Khalas is my favourite Arabic slang. It means ‘enough’, ‘finished’, ‘done’ or ‘stop’!

NN: Do you have a favorite memory in Dubai?

OD: I have so many favorite memories haha! I would say one of my favorite memories is working with Shushu Stephens (@shushu_stephens). She’s such an amazing friend/client.

NN: What’s a lesson you’ve learned from living in Dubai that you carry with you every day?

OD: I’ve learned to be more open minded.

NN: What’s your vision for the future of Dubai, and how do you see yourself contributing to it?

OD: Most of my clients here prefer home services, so in future, I would like to invest more into that and further establish the Oneal Daniels brand. For now, I work with my PA and can only do a limited number of clients in a day, so in future I would have a big team, multiple locations, faster & better services and host masterclassess.
