"It’s pretty easy to get caught in the hustle and bustle of Lagos" - Kathy Kamara

Noted Noire: What brought you to Lagos?
Kathy Kamara: A childhood friend from Sierra Leone who was based in Lagos and invited me over

NN: How does your Sierra Leonean heritage influence your daily life in Lagos?

KK: Lagos is a fast place in the sense it’s pretty easy to get caught in the hustle and bustle of it. However, my Sierra Leone heritage helps me find my balance when I need to slow down and reevaluate.

NN: What does a typical day in Lagos look like for you?

KK: Work, going to the gym, getting stuck in traffic (!), and spending time with my friends and chosen family.

"My personal style? To be honest, when it comes to my personal style, comfort is my main aim, so I always go for timeless elegance " - Kathy Kamara

NN: Who is your biggest inspiration in Lagos?

KK: I’ll give that to my best friend named Philldella Yve. She’s an actress & content creator whose journey continues to inspire and resonate with me. She’s very mindful and intentional as a person, extremely go-getting in nature and at the same time patient with her journey. She’s been like a guardian angel making sure I stay in alignment with my own journey and prevailing through.

NN: What’s been the most rewarding experience in your career as an actress so far?

KK: To be frank, I feel I still have a long way to go when it comes to rewards. However I love when a passionate fan runs  up to me to let me know they watched one of my films. I also love that I get to work with the best actors and actresses in Nigeria, that once upon a time, I had only met in my imagination.

NN: What’s your go-to Sierra Leonean dish when you’re feeling homesick?

KK: Cassava leaves and white rice.

NN: Is there a particular Nigerian dish or Lagos street food you can’t get enough of?

KK: Catfish pepper soup and seafood okra soup. For street food it’s ram meat suya.
